Golden Bears drop 4-3 decision in extra innings

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech and Lawrence Tech went 12 innings Monday afternoon in Beckley, West Virginia and the Golden Bears fell, 4-3, to the Blue Devils. Tech moves to 1-6 in 2018 while Lawrence Tech holds a record of 8-4.

The Gold and Blue finished with seven hits including two from sophomore Brian Schack. Schack knocked a double in the sixth inning for a RBI that crossed pinch runner, redshirt freshman Jacob Dingess. Dingess took over for senior Wyatt Belinda who reached by walk.

Tech's first run of the game came in the second inning when freshman Kent Rooklin drove one to right center, scoring Schack.

The Golden Bears' final score came in the bottom of the 11th with bases loaded when freshman Sean Crosby reached first on a walk to cross junior Reed McNeer.

Sophomore Michael Rotenberry started on the mound, throwing for 4.2 innings. Rotenberry struck out three batters while giving up zero hits or runs.

Redshirt sophomore Trey Dalton (0-1) suffered the loss after 2.0 innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs while striking out one Blue Devil.

Tech stays home tomorrow, Tuesday for one nine-inning game against University of Pikeville. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Beckley.
