Golden Bears and Eagles split RSC doubleheader

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech and Midway University baseball split a doubleheader Friday afternoon in  Beckley, West Virginia. The Golden Bears (10-23, 4-10 RSC) took game one 11-5 before dropping the night cap 2-10 to the Eagles (16-13, 10-3 RSC).

Sophomore Brian Schack had a standout game at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 towards four RBI, a double, two runs scored and his first collegiate home run.

Fellow classmates Jacob Reimold, who has five longs balls this season, and Darriel Torres also knocked homers. Reimold posted two RBI and three runs scored while Torres had two RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Wyatt Belinda and junior Sean Crosby marked doubles while Belinda scored three runs and Crosby posted a RBI.

Sophomore Michael Rotenberry (1-4) earned his first W on the mound this season, throwing for 6.1 innings towards five strike outs, five hits and four earned runs.

Redshirt senior Garrison Vandeventer finished out the game, striking out one batter and giving up one earned run after 2.2 innings of work.

Game Two | Midway 10, WVU Tech 2 | Box Score

Tech was outhit by their opponent, 10-4, with two hits credited to Reimold and one each to Schack and freshman Alex Tennant.  Reimold and Tennant both knocked a two-bag hit.

The runs batted in were credited to Reimold and Schack.

Freshman Brett Linton (1-5) drew the start and the loss on the bump. Linton pitched 4.1 innings, recording four strike outs, five earned runs and seven hits.

The teams will finish the three-game conference series tomorrow, Saturday in Beckley, West Virginia with one nine-inning game.
