CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball split a River States Conference (RSC) doubleheader with (RV) University of Rio Grande Saturday afternoon in Charleston, West Virginia. The Golden Bears (8-20, 2-4 RSC) dropped game one 1-9 (six innings) before taking the night cap from the RedStorm (19-10, 7-1 RSC) 8-6.

The team recorded four hits including a team-best two from junior
Skylar Connelly and one each from seniors
MaKayla Waugh and
Kayla Harbin.
Waugh, who was 1-for-2 at the plate, recorded Tech's lone RBI.
Sophomore
Amanda McDonald (2-10) pitched 3.2 innings towards the loss, striking out three batters and giving up seven earned runs.
Fellow classmate
Karina Atanacio threw for 2.1 innings towards four strike outs.

Atanacio had a standout game, recording three RBI and a 2-for-3 effort at the plate. The Middletown, Delaware native also earned the W in the circle, pitching for 4.2 innings towards a strike out and one earned run.
Freshman
Lauren Oxford and Waugh both recorded three hits while junior
Kacie Cahill posted two. Cahill also crossed the plate three times while Waugh marked two runs.
The Golden Bears tallied eight RBI total with the following players driving in one run each -- Cahill, Waugh, Oxford, freshman
Alix Lamana and sophomore
Annika Ponton.
Tech returns to the field Tuesday when they travel to University of Pikeville for a non-conference doubleheader.
