BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The Golden Bears are ready to prowl. WVU Tech took a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play and went on to roll past Midway University 12-2 in eight innings at Linda K. Epling Stadium Saturday morning.
"I told the guys, 'March was cold, but our young cubs came out of hibernation," Tech head coach Lawrence Nesselrodt said.
Tech (11-23, 4-10 River States Conference) have won five of their last six games.
"This was our biggest win of the season by far," Nesselrodt said. "It is a real confidence boost to win the series against a quality team that beat us in the conference championship last spring."
The Golden Bears took command in the first inning on a 2-run homer from Jacob Reimold. The Eagles evened the score at 2-2 after three innings, but the Golden Bears responded with two runs in the home half of the fourth inning.
Tech put the game away with three runs in the seventh inning and four more in the decisive eight inning.
Wyatt Belinda led off the seventh with a double and was followed by Reimold with an RBI single to spark the 3-run inning.
Three more singles in the eighth along with a walk, a hit batter and an error led to the final four runs.
Jerod Jobst went the distance to collect the win for Tech.
"Jobst was outstanding as we played our most complete game of the year," Nesselrodt said. "We played good defense, had timely hitting and aggressive base running."
WVU Tech (11-23, 4-10) will travel to Georgetown College (Ky.) Tuesday.
