Tech softball earns non-conference sweep over Bluefield State

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball captured a non-conference doubleheader sweep over NCAA DII opponent Bluefield State College Friday afternoon in Beckley, West Virginia with scores of 10-2 and 14-1. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 13-25 while the Blues move to 1-12.

Senior Kayla Harbin had a standout day at the plate, finishing a perfect 6-for-6 towards three doubles, five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Harbin recorded two doubles while seniors Kayla Jones and MaKayla Waugh posted one each.

Junior Skylar Connelly was 3-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored and stolen base.

In the circle, sophomore Amanda McDonald (4-13) earned the W after two innings of work and four strike outs.

Sophomore Ashley Daniels knocked a two-run home run while Waugh, Harbin, Jones and freshmen Olivia Morey and Alix Lamana marked a double each.

Harbin drove in three runs while sophomore Kayte Blandford, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, and Daniels had two RBI a piece.

Sophomore Karina Atanacio (6-10) was credited the win after tossing two innings towards four strike outs, zero hits and zero runs.

The team will return to action Monday with another doubleheader against University of Pikeville in Beckley, West Virginia.
