Tech riding a seven-game winning streak after DH sweep

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball, who has won nine of its last ten games, is now enjoying a seven-game winning streak after sweeping Point Park University in a River States Conference (RSC) doubleheader Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bears hold a record of 15-25, 6-6 (RSC) while the Pioneers move to 10-16, 7-5 (RSC) after scores of 4-2 and 2-1.

A sacrifice fly from junior Kacie Cahill that drove in senior Kayla Harbin put Tech on the board first in the second inning.

The Golden Bears second run came off a bunt from Harbin that scored junior Skylar Connelly and senior Hannah Calhoun in the third inning.

During the fourth inning, Tech tallied its final run after a sacrifice bunt from Calhoun crossed freshman Alexis Lopez.

In the circle, sophomore Amanda McDonald (5-13) earned the W after three innings of work. McDonald struck out two batters while giving up two hits.

Fellow classmate Karina Atanacio tossed for four innings also striking out two while giving up two hits and two earned runs.

Senior MaKayla Waugh started off the scoring for the Gold and Blue in game two when she knocked a triple that drove in Lopez during the third inning.

Junior Lauren Oxford crossed the winning run when she hit a double in the sixth inning to bring in pinch runner sophomore Ashley Daniels.

Atanacio (7-10) picked up the win in the night cap, throwing for three innings towards three strike outs and two hits.

McDonald also struck out three while giving up two hits after pitching four innings.

The team will continue home conference play tomorrow, Saturday when they host Carlow University in a doubleheader at Woodrow Wilson High School.
