BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech women's soccer squad opened its 2018 campaign with a 1-0 shutout victory over NCAA DII opponent Glenville State College Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears recorded 23 shots on goal while holding the Pioneers to four shots on goal.
Tech and Glenville were held scoreless until the 48
th minute when junior
Miriam Cortez recorded the first Gold and Blue goal of the season. Fellow classmate
Maria Gonzalez was credited with the assist.

Patricia Fisher posted a game-high seven shots while Gonzalez, senior

Emily Harrah marked four each.
Freshman keeper
Jenna Miller (1-0) protected the goal a full 90 minutes for the W, stopping four Pioneer attempts on frame.
The team will return to action Saturday, September 1 when they travel to Montreat, North Carolina to face University of Pikeville.
