Women's soccer shuts out IU East to start RSC play

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's soccer blanked Indiana University East 1-0 to begin River States Conference (RSC) play in Beckley Saturday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 4-2, 1-0 (RSC) while the Red Wolves move to 4-3-2, 0-2 (RSC).

The only goal of the contest came from sophomore Meghan Rugel who struck in the first half (17') to sail a ball past IU East's keeper Amanda Nicholson. Rugel's score was a season-first for the Mesa, Arizona native and came from the assist of fellow classmate Domenica Moncayo.

The Gold and Blue posted seven shots on goal while holding the Red Wolves' to six shots on frame. Tech was led by freshman Brittany Dye who posted three shots on goal while Rugel had two.

Freshman Jenna Miller (3-2) protected the goal for 90 minutes and made six saves towards the win. Nicholson made six Golden Bear stops while allowing one goal in the complete game.

Tech will return to action for another RSC contest when they travel to Carlow University Thursday, September 27 for a 5 p.m. kick off.
