Golden Bear volleyball swept the WVU Tech tri-match, 2-0

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- Golden Bear volleyball finished 2-0 at the WVU Tech tri-match Tuesday after defeating Salem University (3-0) then Washington Adventist University (3-0). The Gold and Blue move to 18-4 in 2018 while the Shock hold a record of 1-8.

Junior Carolina Bologna had a match-best 12 kills towards a .733 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Katelyn Byrd followed with 11 kills while senior Ana Monteiro posted eight.

Junior Konstantina Pateli, who had eight digs and four kills, marked a match-high 37 assists in the win.

Sophomore libero Sawyer Hawgood picked up 18 digs while freshman Valentina Abondano recorded 12 digs.

Junior Emily Kidd led the way at the net on defense, posting three block solos to go with three kills and an assist.

The attack was balanced in the victory over the Shock, led by sophomore Ana Alonso Olea and freshman Abigail Hill who had seven kills each. Bologna had six kills while Kidd and Monteiro marked five each.

Freshman Michaella Guyot-Polverini handled the ball and dished out 17 assists while marking six digs and hitting towards a 1.000 hitting percentage (4-for-4).

Hawgood also had six digs while Abondano and junior Alice Amitrano posted five each.

At the service line, Hawgood, Monteiro and Bologna had four aces each while Abondano tallied two.

The team returns to action Friday, September 28 when they travel to Indiana University East for a River States Conference (RSC) contest.
