Golden Bears earn two conference wins at home

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball defeated Ohio Christian University 3-0 Friday evening before taking down Indiana University East 3-1 Saturday in River States Conference (RSC) play. The Golden Bears boost their record to 14-7, 3-2 (RSC) while the Trailblazers move to 3-12, 1-3 (RSC) and the Red Wolves to 11-8, 3-2 (RSC).

Senior Konstantina Pateli led three categories for the Gold and Blue over two matches including dishing out 71 total assists or 10.14 per set. The Athens, Greece native also picked up 27 digs while putting down five service aces and eight kills.

At the net, senior Carolina Bologna posted a team-high three block solos and two block assists to go with 15 kills and five service aces.

Fellow senior Katelyn Byrd led the attack, marking 22 kills over seven sets. Byrd also had 16 digs, two block solos and four assists.

In the back row, junior Sawyer Hawgood recorded 22 digs while sophomore Valentina Abondano had 18 and junior Michaella Guyot-Polverini marked 14 digs.

Abondano and Polverini also put down four service aces each while Hawgood had eight assists.

Junior Ana Alonso Olea produced 19 kills, two block solos and a block assist while senior Emily Kidd posted 11 kills and three block solos.

Tech's next four matches are on the road beginning with a trip to Asbury University Friday, October 11.
