Volleyball stages comeback for conference road win

RICHMOND, Indiana -- WVU Tech volleyball battled back for a huge 3-2 River States Conference (RSC) victory over Indiana University East Friday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 18-10, 7-5 (RSC) with scores of 21-25, 15-25, 29-27, 25-20, 15-10 and the Red Wolves move to 16-13, 7-6 (RSC).

With the W, the Gold and Blue climbed to No. 2 in the RSC East standings, 1.5 games back from No. 1 Point Park (9-4 RSC), while IU East is now No. 3 at 2.0 games back.

Senior Carolina Bologna had a standout out match, producing a team-high 13 kills to go with ten digs and five block assists.

Junior Ana Alonso Olea put down 11 kills to go with a block solo, block assist and dig.

Senior Katelyn Byrd finished with ten kills, 14 digs, four block assists, two assists and a service ace.

Senior Konstantina Pateli dished out a match-best 41 assists while marking 20 digs, two block assists, a service ace and three kills.

Junior libero Sawyer Hawgood led the back row with 22 digs while marking two assists and a service ace.

Junior Michaella Guyot-Polverini and sophomore Valentina Abondano posted 12 digs each while senior Emily Kidd finished with four block assists, a block solo and two kills.

Tech will continue conference play on the road when they face Ohio Christian University tomorrow, Saturday for a 12 p.m. match.
