Heart always wins

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- No. 2 (East) WVU Tech played with heart and came back to defeat No. 3 (West) Indiana University Southeast 3-2 after being down in the match 2-0 Friday evening. The Golden Bears advance to a semifinal of the River States Conference Championship after set scores of 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 16-14 during the quarterfinal.

The team's defense made a huge difference in the tough match, totaling 16 block assists and seven block solos while picking up a combined 75 digs.

Senior Carolina Bologna, who now has 1,000+ career kills, was solid all the way around, marking nine kills, six digs, six block assists, three block solos, two assists and a service ace.

Fellow classmate Katelyn Byrd led the attack with 13 kills while producing ten digs, a block solo and an assist.

Senior Konstantina Pateli, who now has 5,000+ career assists, dished out 39 assists and had 15 digs, six kills and a block assist.

Sophomore Abigail Hill put down 11 kills to go with three block assists and two digs.

Junior Ana Alonso Olea posted ten kills while recording seven digs and four block assists.

Senior Emily Kidd recorded seven kills, three block solos, two block assists and an assist.

Junior Sawyer Hawgood picked up 18 digs to lead the team and had two service aces.

Tech is looking for redemption tomorrow, Saturday when they face No. 1 (West) Brescia in a semifinal of the championship. During the regular season they dropped a 3-0 road decision to the Bearcats (October 18).
