PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- WVU Tech volleyball's 2019 campaign will go down in history as one of the best seasons a Golden Bear squad has ever put out. Tech finished the season as River States Conference runners-up and with an overall record of 23-12. The appearance during the conference championship is a first for the program.

The Gold and Blue started Saturday in a RSC Championship semifinal, earning a 3-2 victory over Brescia University after set scores of 26-24, 22-25, 26-24, 30-32 and 15-11.

The win propelled them to the final match of the championship against Indiana University Kokomo where they dropped a 3-0 decision with set scores of 18-25, 20-25 and 23-25.

Senior Konstantina Pateli put out 67 assists Saturday, averaging 8.38 per set. The Athens, Greece native also recorded 12 kills, 30 digs, four service aces and three block assists. Pateli ends her collegiate career with 5,087 total assists and is currently ranked No. 25 in service aces (54), No. 27 in total assists and No. 41 in assists per game (9.14) in the nation (NAIA).

Fellow senior Katelyn Byrd finished with a team-high 20 kills over eight sets. Byrd, who hails from Parkersburg, West Virginia, totaled six block assists, 23 digs and a service ace. After three seasons with Tech, she finishes with 925 career kills and 520 digs.

Junior Sawyer Hawgood picked up a team-best 46 digs over two matches, recording 5.75 per set. The Kamloops, B.C., Canada native finished the season with 699 digs and two national rankings -- No. 17 in total digs and No. 34 in digs per game (5.27).

Senior Carolina Bologna put down 12 block assists and a block solo to go with 15 kills, four service aces, four digs and three assists Saturday. Bologna who comes from Vasto, Italy ends her career as a Golden Bear with 1,018 kills and is currently No. 29 in the NAIA with a hitting percentage of .313.

Senior Emily Kidd posted the team's best three block solos to go with eight block assists. The Ivel, Kentucky native also had eight kills and a dig. Kidd posted 87 solo blocks and 120 block assists after four years on the court with the Gold and Blue.

Also a senior, Michaella Guyot-Polverini, marked 14 digs, a service ace and a kill after eight sets played. Polverini, from Calais, France, finished the 2019 season with a career-best 267 digs.

Sophomore Abigail Hill recorded 19 kills while junior Ana Alonso Olea had 14 kills total. Hill also had eight digs while Olea posted five.

Sophomore Valentina Abondano finished with nine digs, a service ace and a kill while freshman Brooklyn Cook recorded two kills and a dig.

The conference celebrated season awards during the tournament including accolades for WVU Tech. See below for the awards.
