BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The Golden Bears of WVU Tech men's basketball earned a 95-77 River States Conference (RSC) victory over Point Park University Saturday afternoon. Tech boosts its record to 7-5, 3-1 (RSC) while the Pioneers move to 6-5, 1-1 (RSC).
Tech had five Golden Bears hit double-digits including a game-high 21 points from junior
Andreas Jönsson who finished 7-for-9 from three-point range.
Freshman
Darrin Martin came off the bench to pour in 19 points which included a 6-for-9 effort from the bonus stripe.
Junior
Junior Arrey finished with a double-double effort of 16 points and 12 assists.
Fellow junior
Tamon Scruggs recorded 13 points while freshman
Andrew Work poured in 11 points to round out Tech's top offensive contributors.
Under the boards, senior
Kevin Thomas-Griffin pulled down seven rebounds while Scruggs also had seven.
As a team, Tech finished with 53.8 percent shooting from the field and 50.0 percent from three-point range while the Pioneers shot 54.7 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from beyond the arc.
The Pioneers won the rebound battle (35-27) while the Golden Bears held the advantage in points off turnovers (27-14) and fast break points (23-6).
Tech will hit the road next to play a non-conference game against Bluefield College Saturday, December 28.
