BECKLEY, West Virginia -- (RV) WVU Tech women's basketball completed the regular season with a 93-71 victory over River States Conference (RSC) rival University of Rio Grande Saturday. On a day that the Golden Bears celebrated their seniors, they boosted their record to 20-10, 16-1 (RSC) while the RedStorm move to 16-14, 6-11 (RSC).
The women clinched the regular season RSC Championship title and have already punched their ticket to the NAIA DII Championship scheduled to be held March 6-12 in Sioux City, Iowa.
As the No. 1 seed in the RSC East, Tech will host a quarterfinal on Wednesday, February 20 in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears will face No. 4 (West) Midway University who enters the single-game elimination tournament with a record of 16-13.
Junior
Laura Requena elevated her double-double streak to 11 after pouring in 18 points and pulling down 11 boards.
Senior
Savannah Shamblin marked 19 points while giving six assists, grabbing four steals and two rebounds.
Freshman
ShanEttine Butler came off the bench to mark 13 points to go with two assists, two rebounds and a steal.
Sophomore
Brittney Justice also hit double-digits, recording 12 points. B. Justice also had seven assists, three steals and five rebounds.
Senior
Alexandra Combs blocked a team-high three balls while marking nine points, five assists and two rebounds.
Junior
Logan Dudley had eight points, six rebounds and an assist. Sophomore
Alexandria Gray posted eight points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
The national tournament appaerance will be the first one since 2007 for the Gold and Blue.
