BECKLEY, West Virginia -- No. 1 (East) WVU Tech women's basketball took down No. 4 (West) 95-68 in a quarterfinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Championship Wednesday evening. The Golden Bears will next host No. 2 (West) Indiana University Kokomo in a semifinal Saturday, February 23.
Tech enters the semi with an overall record of 22-9 while the Cougars, who defeated No. 3 (East) Point Park 77-60 in a quarterfinal, are 18-10 so far this season. The Gold and Blue defeated IU Kokomo 99-79 January 26 in Kokomo, Indiana during the regular season.
Sophomore
Brittney Justice led all scorers with 22 points and was one of three Golden Bears to record a double-double with ten rebounds. B. Justice also had three assists and three steals.
Fellow sophomore
Whittney Justice had 18 points to go with two rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.
Junior
Laura Requena had a double-double with 16 points and 16 rebounds while marking three blocks and two assists.
Senior
Savannah Shamblin posted the final double-double of the evening with 13 points and 12 assists. Shamblin also posted six rebounds and four steals.
Senior
Alexandra Combs hit double-digits with 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting while grabbing two rebounds, two steals and giving an assist.
As a team, Tech shot 55.2 percent (37-for-67) while holding its opponent to just 35.7 percent (25-for-70) shooting. The Golden Bears also won under the boards, 48-31.
Tipoff for Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
