Softball sweeps Miami (Hamilton) in home opener

SOUTH CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball earned a doubleheader sweep in its home opener against Miami (Hamilton) Friday. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 2-2 while the Harriers move to 0-2.

Both games ended after five innings with Tech taking game one 11-0 before winning the final contest, 10-1. The team also tallied four home runs, one each from Maddie Bowles, Kennedy Batchelor, Kelsey Moore and Jacey Bertalan.

As a team, Tech recorded 11 hits and 11 RBI including a multi-hit game for Ashley Daniels (2).

Bowles marked three RBI while Batchelor and Sara Dohn had two each.

Moore and Skylar Connelly knocked doubles while Batchelor and Daniels posted a triple each.

In the circle, Taylor Dickerson pitched a complete game towards the W. She struck out five batters in the no-hitter.

Of the nine Gold and Blue hits, both Connelly and Moore finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.

Moore crossed three runners towards RBI while Connelly and Bertalan had two RBI each.

Lauren Oxford, Moore and Connelly all posted doubles while Connelly also rocked a triple.

Amanda McDonald threw for a complete game in the nightcap for the win. She ended with six strike outs while giving up just two hits.

Tech will continue play tomorrow, Saturday through Sunday for the UC/Union Classic in Williamsburg, Kentucky where they will play four games.
