SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota -- In WVU Tech men's basketball Round of 16 game Friday during the NAIA DII National Championship, the Golden Bears fell to Briar Cliffe College, 99-72, ending their season at 30-5. This is the first time in program history that a Golden Bear team has made it past the first round of a National Championship.
This campaign also marks the most wins (30) in a single season for head coach
Bob Williams.
Senior
Elisha Boone led Tech with a double-double effort of 27 points and 15 rebounds. Boone also posted three assists, two steals and a block.
Fellow senior
Brandon Shingles also hit double-digits for the Gold and Blue, pouring in 18 points including four made from beyond the arc. He also recorded three rebounds, a steal and an assist.
Sophomore
Junior Arrey finished with nine points and three rebounds while junior
Dominik King had six points and five rebounds.
Sophomore
Tamon Scruggs pulled down six boards to go with four points, a block and a steal.
The team finished 28-for-68 (41.2 percent) from the floor while Briar Cliffe shot 32-for-65 (49.2 percent). Tech held a slight advantage under the boards, 41-37.
Briar Cliffe outshot Tech from three-point range, 75.0 percent to 53.8 percent.
Briar Cliffe will next face Marian in a quarterfinal game on Saturday.
