Golden Bear softball ends 2019 campaign at RSC Championship

VIENNA, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball completed its 2019 season at the River States Conference (RSC) Championship after falling to Midway University Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears, who entered the double-elimination championship as the No. 6 seed fell to the Eagles, the No. 5 seed, 11-3 after five innings.

Kayte Blandford, who was named to the All-RSC first team, finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate towards a double and a RBI to lead Tech.

Freshman Kennedy Batchelor, a second team All-RSC member, also had a multi-hit game, producing two hits and a run scored.

Senior Skylar Connelly knocked a double and crossed the plate.

Freshman Ciara Jimenez, second team All-RSC, marked a RBI and a run scored off of one hit.

Senior Sarah Dohn and freshman Jacey Bertalan marked a hit each. Bertalan was also named to the All-RSC second team during the championship.

Junior Karina Atanacio was dealt the loss in the circle after 2.1 innings of work. Atanacio struck out one Eagle and gave up three runs.

To finish out the season, Blandford led the conference with a batting average of .440 and is No. 6 with a slugging percentage of .607.

As of May 3, WVU Tech is ranked No. 26 in the nation (NAIA) with 17 triples and No. 29 for .370 triples per game.

The Golden Bears finished the season with an overall record of 20-28 and finished 8-10 in the conference.
