BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball dropped a River States Conference (RSC) match in five after a battle in Beckley with Indiana University Southeast. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 2-3, 2-3 (RSC) while the Grenadiers move to 4-3, 4-3 (RSC).
The Gold and Blue dropped the first two sets, 20-25 and 23-25, before picking up W's in sets three and four with scores of 25-22 and 25-21. The deciding set went to the Grenadiers, 15-10.
Junior
Coralys Maldonado Rivera and senior
Katelyn Byrd both finished with a match-high 19 kills. Rivera also recorded three digs and a block solo while Byrd finished with 19 digs, two block solos, a block assist and an assist.
Senior
Ana Alonso Olea put down 12 kills to go with a block assist and a dig.
Senior
Lucie Strasser dished out a season-high 53 assists while posting nine digs, two kills and a block solo.
Fellow classmate
Sawyer Hawgood finished with a season-high 32 digs to go with five assists for the Golden Bears. Junior
Valentina Abondano picked up 12 digs.
Junior
Ariana Gentzler marked three block solos and six kills. Gentzler is currently ranked No. 28 in the nation (NAIA) for 1.2 blocks per game.
Senior
Michaela Hall is No. 32 in the NAIA with 1.14 blocks per game, finishing with two block solos and two block assists Saturday.
Tech returns to the court Tuesday, October 13 when they travel to University of Rio Grande for more conference action.
