LAURINBURG, North Carolina -- WVU Tech softball picked up its first then second win in 2020 with a doubleheader sweep at St. Andrews University Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears recorded a 3-0 shutout before winning 6-3 against the Knights.
Mackenzie Siersma helped lead Tech at the plate, finishing with a series average of .800 and slugging percentage of 1.000. The Zeeland, Michigan native was 4-for-5 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored.
The Gold and Blue also saw four RBI from
Maddie Bowles who finished the day with two hits including a double.
Courtney Miles,
Taylor Dickerson,
Brianna Stevenson,
Alexis Lopez and
Nicole Kester had one hit each at St. Andrews.
Miles earned the shutout W in the circle in the first contest after pitching a complete game. She struck out nine batters while allowing just two hits.
Dickerson was awarded the victory in game two, throwing for 5.0 innings and striking out two Knights.
Karina Atanacio pitched for 2.0 innings, retiring two batters via strikes while allowing one hit.
The team will get right back into action tomorrow, Sunday when they face UNC Pembroke for two games.
