Season-opening victory

Women's Soccer

WVU Tech women's soccer opened the 2020 campaign with a 3-0 shutout victory over Carolina University Saturday evening in Beckley, West Virginia. Up next, the Golden Bears will begin River States Conference (RSC) play when they travel to University of Rio Grande September 26.

As a team, Tech finished with nine shots on goal after 90 minutes including a team-high three from sophomore Sydney Krakat. The Bruins were posted 11 frame. The Gold and Blue led the way with six corner kicks compared to Carolina's three.

With only about two minutes off the clock to start the game, junior Jacinda Chapman found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Anna Baker.

The second score came from junior Brittany Dye who was assisted by Chapman in the 15th minute.

In minute 52, Krakat put one past Carolina's keeper, Jamison Calhoun, in an unassisted effort for her sixth career goal.

Junior Jenna Miller protected the net for the Golden Bears, grabbing 11 saves while earning a shutout after 90 minutes of play. 

Carolina's keeper, Calhoun, posted six saves while allowing three goals.
