OAKLAND CITY, Indiana -- WVU Tech volleyball opened up its 2020 campaign and River States Conference play with a 3-1 victory at Oakland City University Friday evening. The Golden Bears are now 1-0, 1-0 (RSC) while the Mighty Oaks move to 0-4, 0-3 (RSC). Tech fell in game one 22-25 before taking the next three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-7.

Katelyn Byrd had a standout night on both offense and defense, tallying a match-high 13 kills to go with 12 digs, three block solos, a block assist and a service ace.
Fellow classmate
Ana Alonso Olea finished with 12 kills. Senior Micheala Hall made a difference at the net, blocking four solo and assisting on four blocks while posting three kills.
Freshman Ana Muñez Rocandio led the way in the back row, picking up 19 digs while putting down three kills and three service aces.Â

Sawyer Hawgood recorded 13 digs and eight assists.

Julia McClanahan handled the ball dishing out 18 and 13 assists respectfully.Â
The team tallied 45 total kills compared to the Mighty Oaks' 26 and also held the edge in digs, 70-57.
Tech will continue RSC play when they travel to Indiana University Kokomo tomorrow, Saturday, for a 12 p.m. (EST) match.
