DUNBAR, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball opened its season by splitting a doubleheader, 9-3 then 3-9, with University of Pikeville Wednesday. The Golden Bears are 1-1 in 2021 while the Bears move to 3-4.
After two games,
Douglas Pollock led at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 including a double, a RBI and a run scored.Â
Andrew Sharp,
Corey Lewis,
Jared Sermersheim,
Kent Rooklin,
Luke Lindamood and
Patrick Burke tallied two hits each. Two doubles apiece were recorded by Sharp, Sermersheim, Lindamood and Burke.
Burke also had two RBI while Sharp, Lewis, Pollock, Sermersheim,
John Ackerman,
Joshua Ramirez, Rooklin and Lindamood drove in run one each.
On the mound, the W was awarded to
Logan McClure who pitched 3.1 innings towards six strike outs and just one earned run.
Tanner Buchanan threw for 2.2 innings, finishing with four strike outs and three earned runs in the loss.
Brandon Golden (1.1 innings) and
Trevor Baker (1.0 innings) struck out two each while
Brett Linton (1.0 innings),
Matthew Silverstein (1.0 innings),
Tyler Wilkinson (1.2 innings) and
Wil Mullins (2.0 innings) retired one apiece via strikes.
The Gold and Blue are scheduled to return to the field Friday when they travel to Georgia Gwinnett College.
