CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky -- WVU Tech men's basketball outscored Shawnee State University in the second half but fell short in a battle during a second round game of the NAIA National Championship. The Golden Bears dropped the contest 76-70 Saturday in Crestview Hills.
Seniors
Tamon Scruggs and Andreas Jonsson both finished with the team's best 21 points including five made from beyond the arc. Scruggs had eight boards, three steals and two assists while Jonsson recorded three steals and two rebounds plus was a perfect 5-for-5 from three and 4-for-4 from the bonus stripe.
Sophomore
Darrin Martin also hit double-digits for the Gold and Blue, producing 14 points to go with five assists and two rebounds. Martin hit four three-pointers in the contest.
Senior
Juvante' Hayes and sophomore
Andrew Work had four rebounds each while Work had five points and Hayes posted three points.
As a team, Tech finished 50.0 percent from three-range while holding Shawnee State to just 8.3 percent. Shawnee State held the Golden Bears to 38.2 percent shooting from the floor and finished at 48.4 percent themselves.
WVU Tech ends their 2020-2021 campaign with a record of 13-7 and as the River States Conference Champions.
