BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball fell to Shawnee State University in an overtime battle 82-78 Thursday. The Golden Bears are now 4-1 this season while the Bears move to 2-1.
Tech had five Golden Bears hit double-digits including 15 each from juniors
Faith N. Silva and
Valiyah Yazzie. Silva also had seven rebounds and three assists while Yazzie finished with six rebounds, six assists and a steal.
Senior
Alyssa Taylor poured in 14 points while freshman
Alva Hedrich came off to bench to also produce 14 points. Taylor and Hedrich pulled down six boards each while the freshman had a block and a steal.
Freshman
Janaya Berry recorded a double-double effort of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Shawnee State held the slight edge on shooting percentage from the floor 39.3 percent (33-84) - 37.3 percent (28-75). The Golden Bears did finish nearly perfect at the bonus line 15-16 (93.8 percent).
The Gold and Blue will next host Washington Adventist University Sunday at Bluefield State University, tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.
