BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's soccer clashed with conference rival University of Rio Grande in the River States Conference (RSC) Championship Saturday, falling 4-2 to become 2022 championship runner-up. The Golden Bears are the RSC regular season champions and have a record of 14-3-3 while the RedStorm are 14-3-2.
Tech's first goal came from senior
Endjick Albert who was assisted by fellow classmate
Edward Tordoff. The score came in minute 33 and tied the passionate game 1-1. Rio's first score came from Osvaldo Pereria (24').
The next three goals were posted by the RedStorm (Orellan (60'), Chechlacz (84'), Sayar(87')) before the Gold and Blue posted their final score in minute 88 when RSC Defensive Player of the Year, freshman Enrique Ezquerro Lopez, found the back of the net, also assisted by Tordoff.
Senior
Lucas Rivera Paramio had seven saves in 90 minutes while Rio's keepers, Correa and Torro, finished with a combined three stops.
WVU Tech will wait to see if they have earned a bid for the NAIA National Championship while the RedStorm get the automatic bid with the victory. The selection show for the tourney is scheduled for November 14 at 1 p.m.
