TALLADEGA, Alabama -- (RV) WVU Tech entered the NAIA National Championship as the No. 10 seed and faced No. 7 Cumberland University in an opening round match-up. The Golden Bears fell to the Phoenix 79-65 and end the 2021-2022 season with a record of 26-6.
Thomas Hailey led the Gold and Blue with 18 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.
Juvante' Hayes poured in 16 points and had six boards, two assists and two steals.
Ashton Parker also hit double-digits for Tech, finishing with ten points, six rebounds and four assists.
Saliou Diop pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and blocked two balls.
Andreas Jonsson came off the bench to hit three from beyond the arc towards nine points.
Luke Vass hit everything he put up, posting six points.
The team finished 26-for-60 (43.3 percent) from the floor while Cumberland was 31-for-66 (47.0 percent). The Phoenix also held the edge under the boards, 40-33.
