Golden Bears compete at Bobcat Classic

Volleyball

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball competed in the Bobcat Classic at West Virginia Wesleyan College where they played against the host school, Alderson Broaddus University, Glenville State College and West Virginia State University, all NCAA DII schools.

Friday the Golden Bears fell to Alderson Broaddus 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 29-31, 24-26) and West Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25). Tech dropped two matches on Saturday, 3-0 (16-25, 12-25, 19-25) to Glenville State and 3-0 (13-25, 11-25, 18-25) to West Virginia State.

Tech's back row defense was led by sophomore Brooke Presley who totaled 31 digs over four matches. 

Senior Brooklyn Cook had a double-double of 40 kills and 30 digs across the two-day tournament. Cook also posted five blocks, four assists and two service aces.

As one of the setters in a 6-2, freshman Ally Morris picked up 28 digs to go with a team-best 57 assists and four service aces.

Fellow freshman Alyson Holdren finished with 24 digs, four aces, two assists and a kill.

Junior Emma Leach also hit double-digits in digs, recording 19 to go with five assists and four service aces.

Also handling the ball for the Gold and Blue, junior Julia McClanahan put out 49 assists while tallying five kills, four digs and three blocks.

Senior Coralys Maldonado Rivera led the defense at the net with a total of 15 blocks. Maldonado Rivera also recorded 33 kills, seven digs and two service aces.

Freshman Emily Stack put down ten blocks to go with nine kills while sophomore Roxana Vazquez had ten kills, eight blocks and five digs.

Madison Boswell, a sophomore, finished with 34 kills, seven blocks and four digs.

The Golden Bears will begin River States Conference play next week when they travel to Point Park University Friday and Carlow University Saturday, both in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
