BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech wrestling hosted Bluefield State University and Southwest Virginia Community College in their final home duals of the season Sunday evening. The Golden Bears swept on the mat with scores of 36-8 (vs. Southwest Virginia) and 30-25 (vs. Bluefield State).
The first Golden Bear win of the evening via bout was produced by sophomore
Nicholas Da Silva who scored a fall (2:12) over Willie Toliver (SWVCC) at 165 lbs.
Junior
Drake De La Cruz followed that up with a fall (00:59) of his own at 174 lbs. against Billy Jack-Cupp (SWVCC).
In the dual versus Bluefield State, Tech's first win was credited to freshman
Zach Mullins who recorded a fall (2:46) over Gabriel Nesmith at 133 lbs.
Fellow freshman
John Grundmeyer also posted a fall (5:49) in his bout at 157 lbs. versus Harley Boatwright.
The remaining points for both duals were credited to WVU Tech via forfeit wins.
The Golden Bears will hit the road again Saturday, February 11 when they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to face Liberty University and Emory & Henry College.
