BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech volleyball battled to a 3-2 River States Conference (RSC) win over Shawnee State University with scores of 16-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-13 Thursday evening. The Golden Bears now boast a record of 11-4 in the conference, 15-12 overall while the Bears move to 13-9, 8-6 (RSC).
Senior
Ana Muniz Rocandio (Oviedo, Asturias, Spain) led the team on the attack and back row defense with a double-double of 19 kills and 18 digs to go with a service ace.
Junior
Madison Boswell (Ronceverte, W.Va.) also hit double-digits with 14 kills while tallying three digs.
Setters senior
Julia McClanahan (Charleston, W.Va.) and freshman
Marianna Oyola Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) dished out 24 assists each. McClanahan finished with 12 digs, three total blocks, two service aces and a kill while Rivera had nine digs, seven kills and four service aces.
In the back row, junior
Brooke Presley (Shady Spring, W.Va.) and sophomore
Yukari Furuichi Blanchard (Kearneysville, W.Va.) picked up 14 and 11 digs respectively. Presley also had four assists and a service ace and Blanchard posted a service ace.
Tech will next head to Indiana University East for more conference play Friday, October 27 for a 7 p.m. match.
