DALTON, Ga. – (RV) WVU Tech men's soccer bows out of the NAIA National Championship in a first round contest after falling to (RV) University of California Merced 5-1 Thursday evening.
Tech's goal came in the 88th minute off an own goal from the Bobcats. UC-Merced had three scorers including Luis Villegas, Roberto Ceja and Xavier Barajas.
The Golden Bears added 20 total shots including two on goal. The shots on frame came from freshman Lorenzo Grispello (Milano, Italy) and sophomore Aimar Lezana (Logroño, La Rioja, Spain).
Freshman Ramon Ferrari was in net for the complete game, making five stops for the Gold and Blue. The Bobcats' keeper, Brycen Miller, made two saves and allowed one goal for the W.
The Golden Bears finish the 2023 season with a record of 14-5-2 and winning the River States Conference regular season (with University of Rio Grande)Â and tournament championship.
