No. 1 WVU Tech heads to conference championship semifinal next

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- No. 1-seed WVU Tech men's soccer hasn't lost in its last 12 contests and has recorded its eighth shutout of the season after defeating No. 8 Indiana University Purdue University Columbus 12-0 Saturday in a quarterfinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Championship. The Golden Bears boast a record of 12-4-2 while the Crimson Pride end their season at 8-9-1.

Freshman Lorenzo Grispello (Milano, Italy) recorded a coveted hat trick, posting three goals for the Gold and Blue.

Senior Alejandro Moreno (Barcelona, Spain) netted two goals and recorded three assists. Freshmen Ollie Corris (Manchester, England) and Daniel Redondo (León, Spain) also posted two goals while Redondo added an assist.

Freshman Vasco Berardo (Lisbao, Portugal) finished with a goal and three assists Saturday.

Fellow freshman Marc Hernandez (Argentona, Barcelona, Spain) and sophomore Juan Minguez Malonda (Oliva, Valencia, Spain) had one goal each.

Sophomore Aimar Lezana (Logroño, La Rioja, Spain) had two assists while juniors Maximo Romagnoli (Córdoba, Argentina) and Joan Hernandez (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) made an assist each.

Freshman Ramon Ferrari (Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo, Brazil) started in net, marking four saves in 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Luka Felix finished out the game protecting the net, allowing zero goals in the final 45 minutes. IUPUC's keeper, Jacob Kasarda, was forced to stop nine Golden Bear attempts and allowed 12 goals in the complete game loss.

WVU Tech will next host No. 4-seed Oakland City University (9-8-1) Wednesday, November 8 at 5 p.m. in Paul Cline Stadium for a semifinal of the conference championship.
