Golden Bears season comes to a close at RSC Championship

RICHMOND, Ind. -- No. 7-seed WVU Tech fought hard against No. 2 Indiana University East in a quarterfinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Championship, falling 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 17-25, 20-25) to finish out the 2023 season.

Senior Julia McClanahan (Charleston, W.Va) and freshman Marianna Oyola Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) dished out 21 assists each in WVU Tech's 6-2 rotation. McClanahan secured a double-double with 13 digs and finishes her career with a total of 2,637 assists.

Senior Ana Muniz Rocandio (Oviedo, Asturias, Spain) led the back row defense with 16 digs to finish her career with 1,162 digs and 826 kills. Muniz Rocandio also recorded a double-double with 11 kills.

Junior libero Brooke Presley (Shady Spring, W.Va.) picked up 13 digs while sophomore Yukari Furuichi Blanchard (Kearneysville, W.Va.) had 11 digs and Oyola Rivera had eight.

The attack was led by junior Madison Boswell (Ronceverte, W.Va.) who tallied 21 kills and had three kills. Sophomore Giulia Colombo (Castelvetro di Modena, Italy) had seven kills and fellow classmate Emily Stack (Beckley, W.Va.) finished with four kills.

The Golden Bear volleyball team finishes their season 15-17 overall, with a conference record of 11-8.
