WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- WVU Tech women's basketball ended its eight-game losing streak after a second half surge lifted the Golden Bears past Webber International University 70-62 during the West Palm Beach Invite Monday. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 3-9 while the Warriors move to 1-8.
Tech was trailing 27-34 after the first 20 minutes but outscored the Warriors 43-28 in the second half to produce the win. The Golden Bears finished 42.9 percent (24-for-56) from the floor and held Webber International to a 36.2 percent (21-for-58) effort.
Sophomore
Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Hessen, Germany) recorded a double-double of 18 points and 13 boards to go with three assists, two blocks and a steal.
Seniors
Elysia Perez (Guam) and
Marquesia Heidt (Townsend, Ga.) added 12 points each while sophomore
Alexis Sexton (Lexington, S.C.) finished with 11 points to round out Tech's top offensive contributors.
Senior
Breeana Grigsby (Stockton, Calif.) came off the bench to produce seven points and seven rebounds.
The Golden Bears will play again in 2024 when they return to River States Conference action Tuesday, January 2 in Summersville, W.Va. WVU Tech will host the Brescia Bearcats at 5:30 p.m.
