LAURINBURG, North Carolina -- WVU Tech softball opened the 2023 season with two victories at St. Andrews University Saturday, 12-0 (6 innings) and 7-2.
Game One
Courtney Miles struck out seven and allowed just two hits after 6.0 innings of work to earn the shutout W in the circle.
Olivia Barnett and
Makenzie Holley both had two RBI off of three hits for the Gold and Blue. The duo also had two runs each.
Hailea Skeens, Miles,
Tori Wells and
Nicole Kester recorded two hits and a RBI each. Wells knocked two doubles while Skeens and Barnett had a triple each.
Holley (2),
Gabrielle Pyles and
Kyleigh Jackson recorded stolen bases.
The team was flawless in the field with zero errors.
Game Two
Gracey Dearmon earned the victory in the circle after throwing for 4.0 innings, striking out one and giving up two runs.
Emma Crisswell finished out the final 3.0 innings, recording four strike outs while allowing zero hits.
Mackenzie Siersma, Skeens and Barnett had two hits each. Skeens finished with four RBI while Siersma had two.Â
Miles had a double while Siersma and Barnett both had a triple.
Stolen bases were credited to
Macy Wilkens and Holley.
The team will return to the field Friday, March 3 when they host Bluefield State and Frostburg State at Little Creek Park in South Charleston, West Virginia.
