PIPPAS PASSES, Kentucky -- WVU Tech swept Alice Lloyd College in a three-game River States Conference (RSC) series with scores of 20-4, 7-2 and 14-1 this past weekend. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 8-13, 4-2 (RSC) while the Eagles move to 6-12, 0-6 (RSC).
Matthew Gainer earned the victory on the mound in game one after 6.0 innings of work. Gainer struck out three while giving up just four hits and two earned runs.
In game two,
Jonathan Toro Mesa struck out three, walked one and gave up one earned run for the W after 7.2 innings.
Isaac Wengert threw for a complete game win in the series finale. Wengert struck out six, walked zero and gave up zero earned runs for the Gold and Blue.
At the plate,
Francesco Calderon led the way for Tech with a total of eight hits over three games including a perfect showing of 5-for-5 in game one where the team finished with 24 total hits. The 24 hits is a program record (at least since 2007). Calderon recorded seven RBI, a homer and a double.
Logan Spurlock and
Hunter Fansler both posted six hits, four RBI and a double. Fansler also had a long ball and a stolen base for the Gold and Blue.
Noah Lukas knocked three home runs towards seven RBI and five hits.
Jordan Thurmond also had five hits which included four doubles and a RBI.
Broedy Boyce also rocked one over the fence during the series, adding a total of four hits and two RBI to the stats.
The Golden Bears will next host Davis & Elkins College at GoMart Ballpark Wednesday, March 15 at 5 p.m.
