MIDWAY, Kentucky -- WVU Tech baseball opened River States Conference (RSC) action at Midway University Sunday, taking game one 13-5 before falling 3-4. The Golden Bears move to 6-11, 1-1 (RSC) in 2023 while the Eagles hold a record of 6-9, 1-1 (RSC).
Matthew Gainer (2-2) earned the W on the mound in game one after 6.2 innings of work. Gainer struck out seven, walked two and gave up eight hits and three earned runs.
Tyler Wilkinson recorded the save, throwing for 2.1 innings, striking out one and giving up one hit.
Isaac Wengert started on the bump in game two, pitching 5.0 innings towards three strike outs and four earned runs.
Chase Herndon (1-1) took the loss after 1.0 innings and one hit given up.
In two games
Garrett Warden was 4-for-7 at the plate including a double towards two RBI.
Broedy Boyce finished with four RBI, a double, a triple and a total of three hits.
Jordan Thurmond and
Ryan Miller had three hits each.  Thurmond drove in two runs while Miller recorded one RBI.
Noah Lukas and
Hunter Fansler both knocked a homer for the Gold and Blue.
The teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow, Monday with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. in Midway.
