SOUTH CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- No. 3 (East) WVU Tech blanked No. 2 (West) Midway University in a first round game of the River States Conference (RSC) Championship Thursday. The Golden Bears (24-25) will next face No. 1 (East) University of Rio Grande (34-16) tomorrow, Friday at 12 p.m.
Courtney Miles, who earned first team All-RSC honors today, pitched a complete game to her 15th win of the season. Miles struck out six batters while walking one and giving up just two hits in the shutout victory.
Scarlet Janney started off the scoring for Tech in the third inning, knocking a single to centerfield to drive in Miles and
Hailea Skeens.
Skeens finished with two hits including a triple towards two RBI for the Gold and Blue.
Makenzie Holley also had a mult-hit game, producing two to go with a run scored. Holley was named this season's Champion of Character Thursday. The RSC Champions of Character Team includes one member of each team nominated by their coach for best displaying the NAIA's five character traits of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
