BECKLEY, W.Va. --Â (RV) WVU Tech men's soccer opened the 2023 season even, 1-1, against (RV) Columbia International University at Paul Cline Stadium Friday evening. Both teams now hold a record of 0-0-1.
Columbia International found the back of the net first when Lucas Galdino recorded an unassisted goal in the 12th minute.
The equalizer came from Golden Bear sophomore
Arnau Rabassa (Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, Spain) of a penalty kick awarded with just nine minutes left to play.
Tech finished with 12 shots, three on goal while the Rams posted five shots, three on goal. Junior
Maximo Romagnoli (Córdoba, Argentina) and sophomore
Julian Diaz (Uberlândia, Minas, Brazil) had a shot on frame each.
Sophomore
Luka Felix (Portugal) protected the Gold and Blue net and made two saves in the complete game. The Rams keeper, Matias Breit, also made two stops.
The Golden Bears will next travel for the Labor Day Grizzly Classic in Lawrenceville, Ga. where they will face Lawrence Technological University September 1 and the host school Georgia Gwinnett September 3.
