BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech women's soccer earned a 3-0 River States Conference (RSC) victory against Indiana University Purdue University Columbus Saturday afternoon at Paul Cline Stadium. The Golden Bears move to 2-6-1, 1-1 (RSC) while the Crimson Pride hold a record of 2-4, 0-2 (RSC).
Freshman
Korinne Potter (Woodbridge, W.Va.) struck first and third, marking her first goal of the match-up off an unassisted corner kick in the tenth minute. Potter's second goal came at minute 43 and was assisted by fellow freshman
Renee Julia Verheijde (Rhenen, Netherlands).
The Gold and Blue's second goal of the contest was recorded by sophomore
Stheisy Lemus (Bilbao, Spain) who found the back of the net in minute 40. Lemus was assisted by Potter who ended with a total of five points.
The goal was first protected by sophomore
Sandra Garcia Quilez (Zaragoza, Spain) who allowed zero goals in the first 45 minutes. Freshman
Sascha Pacheco (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) tallied five saves and allowed zero goals in the final half.
The Crimson Pride's keeper, Ana Jackson, had six saves and allowed three goals in 90 minutes of play.
As a team, Tech held the edge on shots in goal (10-5) and corner kicks (7-4).
The Golden Bears will next travel to Indiana University Kokomo for more conference play Thursday, September 28.
