WVU Tech defeats Oakland City to extend winning streak to seven

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- WVU Tech men's basketball kept its winning streak alive, scoring an 80-76 River States Conference (RSC) victory at Oakland City University for the Golden Bears' seventh straight W. The Gold and Blue boost their record to 11-4, 4-1 while the Mighty Oaks move to 7-8, 2-3 (RSC).

Tech trailed by as much as 12 points in the second half but two made free throw's from freshman Braden Chapman (Beaver, W.Va.) with 7:57 left to play tied the teams up and the Golden Bears didn't look back. Senior Ashton Parker (Rock Hill, S.C.) then recorded points in the paint, giving the team a 62-60 lead with 7:27 on the clock and the Golden Bears maintained the lead for the victory.

B. Chapman led all scorers with a career-high 31 points to go with six steals, five rebounds and two assists.

Parker recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards while adding seven blocks and two assists.

Freshman Liam Craven also produced double-digits with ten points off the bench, posting two rebounds, two steals and a block.

Fellow freshman Cole Chapman (Beaver, W.Va.) was 7-for-8 from the bonus line towards nine points and six rebounds.

The Mighty Oaks held the edge under the boards with 55 rebounds compared to Tech's 33. The Gold and Blue forced 15 turnovers, grabbing 13 steals as a team while only turning the ball over eight times and allowing two steals in 40 minutes of play.

The Golden Bears will continue conference play in Indiana this Monday when they travel to Indiana University East for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
