MONTREAT, N.C. -- WVU Tech baseball split another doubleheader at Montreat College, dropping game one 11-0 and finishing the series with a victory 10-2. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 2-2 while the Cavaliers move to 3-5.
Junior
Robert Kelley (Vienna, Va.) recorded the win on the bump after 6.0 innings in game two. Kelley struck out eight batters, walked just one and gave up zero runs. Senior
Tyler Wilkinson (Bridgeport, W.Va.) finished out the game, striking out one Cavalier.
In game one, sophomore
Braedan Pakkala (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) threw for 2.2 innings towards three strike outs and a loss on the mound.Â
Senior
Francesco Calderon (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and junior
Broedy Boyce (Ripley, W.Va.) tallied two RBI each. Calderon knocked a homerun while Boyce finished with four hits over two games including a double.
Seniors
Logan Stump (Beckley, W.Va.) and
Ryan Miller (Hope Mills, N.C.) and sophomore
Xavier Martin (Yorktown, Va.) drove in a run apiece.Â
A multi-hit day was credited to juniors
Logan Spurlock (Charleston, W.Va.) and
Noah Lukas (Ocala, Fla.) with three each while Miller and junior
William Gray (Rockwell, N.C.) both had two hits.
On the base paths, Boyce and junior
Jordan Thurmond (Rock Hill, S.C.) posted a stolen base each. In the field, Tech committed just two errors during the doubleheader.
The Golden Bears will next travel to Laurinburg, N.C. to face St. Andrews University for a four-game series February 10-11.
