INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- WVU Tech baseball won its eighth consecutive game and opened River States Conference (RSC) play with a 7-0 shutout at Indiana University Purdue University Columbus Friday. The Golden Bears move to 11-5, 1-0 (RSC) while the Crimson Pride hold a record of 4-12, 0-1 (RSC).
Senior lefty
Matthew Gainer (Elkins, W.Va.) pitched a complete game, 9.0 innings, and earned his fourth win on the bump this season. Gainer struck out eight batters while giving up just one hit and zero runs for the Gold and Blue.
At the plate junior
Noah Lukas (Ocala, Fla.) recorded three doubles and crossed the plate twice. Fellow classmate
Hunter Fansler also tallied three hits including a double, adding two runs scored and a RBI.
Sophomore
Chase Herndon (Hedgesville, W.Va.) and junior
Garrett Warden (Fayetteville, Tenn.) had a multi-hit day with two each including a double apiece. Warden drove a run in and scored a run while Herndon also posted a run scored.
Junior
Jordan Thurmond (Rock Hill, S.C.) knocked a double toward two RBI while junior
Broedy Boyce also drove in a run.
The Golden Bears committed zero errors in the field and finished with a total of 13 hits.Â
The teams will finish the three-game series tomorrow, Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. in Indianapolis.
