BROOKINGS, S.D. – WVU Tech's Samuel Whitcomb competed in the 3000m Race Walk during the NAIA National Championship March 1 in Brookings. The Golden Bear traveled to South Dakota with head coach Jordan Hosey to be the lone representative for the Gold and Blue in the 2024 Indoor Track & Field championship.
Whitcomb, a sophomore from Waynesboro, Va., raced in a field of 26 competitors, crossing after a time of 17:32.05 and finishing 24th overall in his first ever national appearance. He was joined by WVU Tech alumni, AJ Gruttadauro, '20, who finished ninth overall, racing for Rio Grande as a graduate student this season.
The Golden Bears and Whitcomb will be back in action for the outdoor season beginning March 15 with the Bethany Invitational in Bethany, W.Va.
