CHILLICOTHE, Ohio -- No. 6-seed WVU Tech fell to No. 3 Shawnee State University 16-6 (8 Innings) Thursday morning in a River States Conference (RSC) Championship game. The championship is a double-elimination tournament and the Golden Bears will play again Friday.
Tech tallied ten hits as a team including three from
Broedy Boyce (Ripley, W.Va.) who knocked a home run while adding two runs scored and a RBI.
Francesco Calderon (Guayaquil, Ecuador) also had a multi-hit day, recording a long ball and a double towards two RBI and a run scored.
Chase Herndon (Hedgesville, W.Va.) drove in a run in the seventh off a fielder's choice and crossed the plate for one of Tech's six runs.
Logan Spurlock (Charleston, W.Va.) and
Noah Cummings (Alum Creek, W.Va.) posted a run each.
The Golden Bears totaled nine strike outs including three from
Wyatt Sisk (Appomattox, Va.) who threw for 2.0 innings.Â
Matthew Gainer drew the start on the bump, striking out two in 2.0 innings of work. Gainer scattered four hits in the loss.
Braedan Pakkala (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) and
Dakota Aspinwall (Statesville, N.C.) retired two via strikes each after 1.0 and 2.0 innings respectively.
