CHILLOCOTHE, Ohio -- No. 6-seed WVU Tech upset No. 3 Shawnee State University in a River States Conference (RSC) elimination game 12-9 to advance in the tournament. The Golden Bears will next face No. 2 Indiana University Southeast (31-17) today, Saturday at 4 p.m.
Sophomore
Braedan Pakkala (Sudbury, Ontario, Canada) earned the W on the mound after 5.0 innings. Pakkala struck out six while giving up one run and scattering four hits. Senior
Logan Stump (Beckley, W.Va.) was awarded the save after stepping in for the last out, striking out a Bear looking to end the game.
At the dish, senior
Francesco Calderon (Guayaquil, Ecuador) had another standout performance with three hits including two home runs towards four RBI and two runs scored. Calderon has tallied a total of seven RBI, four dingers and two doubles in the tournament so far.
The Golden Bears had 12 hits, five being homers, in the contest. Senior
Tyler Wilkinson (Bridgeport, W.Va.) rocked a grand slam and a double while junior
Hunter Fansler (Beckley, W.Va.) and sophomore
Noah Cummings (Alum Creek, W.Va.), who also had a double, hit it over the wall too.
