Golden Bears shine in Midway tri-meet sweep

Women's and Men's Swimming

MIDWAY, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2025) — WVU Tech swimming turned in a strong outing Saturday afternoon, with the men's team sweeping dual meets against Midway University (117–86) and Pikeville (122–60), while freshman Neda Vaičaite led the women with two podium finishes in her collegiate debut.

The Golden Bears posted several standout swims, including new personal bests in both individual and relay events.

🏊 Golden Bear Highlights – Men

  • Carmine Bernardo (So., Salerno, Italy) swept both the 200 free (1:47.21) and 100 fly (52.68), delivering Tech's top performance scores of the day. Bernardo set a new personal best in the 200 free.
  • Lorenzo Silva (Fr., São Paulo, Brazil) picked up wins in the 1000 free (10:55.16) and 500 free (5:16.68). His 200 free relay split also marked a new personal best.
  • Bryson George (Jr., St. Vincent and the Grenadines) claimed victories in the 100 breast (1:04.02) and 50 free (24.23), contributing key points.
  • Jose Fernando Perez (Sr., Trujillo, Peru) won the 100 free (49.50) and 200 breast.
  • Oleguer Siscart Muntané (So., Barcelona, Spain) recorded a personal best in the 100 fly (57.07) and added a podium finish in the 200 fly (2:10.50).
  • Mauro Sanchez Lopez (Fr., Spain) recorded a personal best in the 100 free (49.66) and raced well in relay events.
  • Sebastian Mathias Morales Tito (Fr., Beckley, W.Va.) scored in both the 200 fly (2:24.86) and 400 IM (5:27.41).
  • Noah Maniace (Sr., Osceola, Fla.) and Mason Adams (Fr., Chilhowie, Va.) provided additional lineup depth.

Relay highlights:

  • Tech earned a strong finish in the 200 Free Relay, with several swimmers turning in their fastest splits of the season.


🏊 Golden Bear Highlights – Women

  • Neda Vaičaite (Fr., Šilainiai, Lithuania) impressed in her debut, finishing 2nd in the 100 back (1:05.43), 3rd in the 500 free (5:57.52) and setting a personal best in the 50 free (26.66).

The Golden Bears return to the pool Oct. 25 when they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio, for a tri-meet at Shawnee State University.
