Golden Bears battle Trine in ECAC Rocket League

WVU Tech Rocket League opened ECAC Division F play Thursday night inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab, showing fight in a 4–0 decision to Trine University. The Golden Bears turned in determined efforts across all three games, highlighted by sophomore Jay Franklin (Kase)'s scoring and defensive play.

The lineup featured Franklin (Ripley, W.Va.), sophomore Jon Wilson (Neblosk) of Midway, W.Va., and junior Samuel Duff (Algebrother) of Wilson, N.C., competing under head coach Brad Davis.

Rocket League 101

Rocket League is a fast-paced 3v3 title where teams use rocket-powered cars to score goals in five-minute games. Collegiate series are best-of-five, with stats tracked in goals, assists, saves, and shots.


Program History – Rocket League

Rocket League became one of WVU Tech's first varsity esports titles in 2020–21 under coach Korey Tedder, earning the program's first wins. Under current head coach Brad Davis, Tech advanced in the postseason in 2022–23, captured the NECC Fall Championship in 2024–25, and made its first national tournament appearance in Spring 2025.
