PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — No. 22 WVU Tech men's soccer rolled to its fifth consecutive victory and fifth shutout of the season Thursday night, defeating Shawnee State 3-0 in River States Conference action. The Golden Bears (7-0-2, 2-0 RSC) remain unbeaten through nine matches while holding opponents scoreless in more than half of their outings.
Freshman Hugo Roman delivered the breakthrough in the 33rd minute, scoring his first collegiate goal to put Tech on top before halftime. Roman factored again in the second half, assisting freshman Leny Duperray's team-leading fifth goal in the 56th minute. Just six minutes later, freshman Julen Recalde netted his fourth of the season to secure the three-goal cushion.
In net, senior Luka Felix tallied three saves across 70 minutes before junior Ramon Ferrari closed the match with 20 shutout minutes and one stop. The Golden Bears controlled play with a 13-8 advantage in shots, including 5-4 on frame, and held a commanding 10-3 edge in corner kicks.
The result extends Tech's win streak to five, its unbeaten run to nine straight, and gives the Golden Bears their second consecutive RSC victory.
Opponent highlights: Shawnee State's Theo Cavaleiro Trindade put two shots on frame, while goalkeeper Toby Forsythe finished with two saves. The Bears picked up five yellow cards in the physical contest.
